I don’t have any idea how international group works in other universities, but in Syracuse University we have international service named Slutzker Center for International Services. It’s kinda late, but I did realize that one of its program is SCIS English Conversation Groups. I found out this program through their facebook page, showed their latest pictures of their event. I was like… what, where have you been?
I sent an e-mail to contact person listed in Slutzker’s site and soon after that I got warm reply. Maria, the lady whom I sent to said that actually the program’s almost over but there is 1 group having two meetings on the following weeks. I respond vigorously, said that I confirm to attend those 2 meetings.
Today is the day! I came to Slutzker, met the warm lady I sent e-mail. She greet me zestfully, “I read your name and I was thinking that the name came from Malaysia or Indonesia. Am I right? Wow! Perfect!” It’s always nice to meet such a nice lady like her 🙂
Not only meeting her, I also meet my group leader, Mrs. Keeley. She’s been voluntering for this program since along time ago. I love talking with her. She brought a jar of hot tea and cookies made by her daughter. She’s very talkative. Mrs. Keeley introduced me to two others ladies. Both of them are spouses of SU students. They came from Iran & Japan. Soon, we involved in such a nice meeting, talked about holiday, Christmas, traffic jam, families.. anything!
Oh dear, too bad I’m late to enroll to this interesting program, at least I still have three semesters to come 🙂
